Peace Culture Village is an international community where the working language is English. We offer English classes to local community members who are interested in strengthening their listening and speaking skills. As more people from overseas learn about PCV, we predict that the number of foreign visitors to Konu will rise. Opportunities to interact with foreigners will become commonplace for Japanese people living here. Instruction in English will enable the locals to take advantage of this influx.
Realizing a global peace culture will require people from all over the world to communicate clearly and constantly. As such, we consider language instruction to be a crucial component of our work. At the moment, PCV only offers English classes, but we hope to eventually offer other languages, including Japanese for foreigners.
PCV English classes are conducted mainly in English but also using Japanese, the amount of Japanese depending on the class level. We currently offer 6 English classes for over 55 students, including classes for elementary schoolers, high schoolers, beginner adults, and advanced adults.
Leraning a language requires not only classroom time but also immersion. That is why PCV holds "English Parties," where we learn about foreign cultures with natives from English speaking countries. We play games while using English, participate in cultural or seasonal activities, and eat foreign foods. PCV typically holds 4 such events per year including an Easter Egg Hunt in April, an American summer camp day in June, a Halloween party in October, and a Christmas celebration in December.
We are always looking to expand our language programs, so if you have an idea for a new English class or event, or would like to join one of our existing English classes or events, please contact us! Information on our current classes can be found below. For information on English events, please see our Calendar.
